If your property is repossessed and sold, you are still responsible for what you owe on it even after filing for bankruptcy. This is one of the few types of debt that cannot be discharged. A Chapter 7 bankruptcy can discharge the balance owed, however.
If you are earning an income that qualifies you for a Chapter 13 bankruptcy, the good news is that you will have from three to five years to catch up on your payments, depending on the kind of payment plan that is arranged.
